Police bars NCA No Vote meeting in Chipinge

NCA Media Alert

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) today ordered the NCA not to go ahead with its NO Vote campaign meeting pencilled for Friday the 8th of March 2013 at the Chipinge Town Council Boardroom.

In instituting the order Commanding Officer for Chipinge, a one Wasara informed NCA Officer Terrance Maoneke that the meeting could no longer take place as initially agreed.

The Police detail, Wasara adviced Maoneke that the meeting was illegal and that their office was not informed on time. This is despite the fact that the NCA applied to hold the meeting on the 1st of March 2013.

NCA Chairperson Professor Lovemore Madhuku, International Socialist Organisation Zimbabwe Chapter leader Munyaradzi Gwisai and members of National Taskforce were scheduled to speak at the meeting.

We are greatly disturbed by the desperate and intimidatory actions of the police and the state, which are a clear sign of panic as we head for the referendum. They are using guerrilla tactics to cow the people of Zimbabwe into voting for their fraudulent draft constitution in the referendum.

The NCA is worried by the unevenness of the playing field, the barring of our meetings, and the media blackout especially from the state media in the run-up to this referendum.

We still contend that a credible referendum is a precursor to a credible election. If the referendum is not free and fair and credible, then rest assured the election will not be credible as well.
